A Vision of the Future from Microsoft

It’s stuff like this that makes me feel entirely vindicated being one of the few geeks who likes Microsoft, they have such a beautiful vision for the future of technology – allowing it to integrate and flow seamlessly through our everyday lives. It always annoys me when other geeks unfairly slam Microsoft as being ‘evil’ or use childish terms like “Micro$oft” simply because they are a big company – ask yourself this, without Microsoft do you really think the computer revolution would have happened? Of course it woulden’t. So, here’s to Microsoft, sure they may not always get things right, but at least they’re trying.

Wow, as a Computer Science student, I find stuff like this inspirational. Things like the technology being able to used seamlessly in the classroom, that really shows how it can improve our lives.

I too feel that a lot of people have an irrational hatred of Microsoft that is excessive, however… I’ve recently been working on a browser-based game and getting the site layout to look right in IE (something that Firefox and Chrome manage effortlessly) is a massive headache. If IE was made by anyone else, no-one would use it, but because it’s the default browser that ships with Windows, it keeps its majority market share simply as most users don’t know how to change it.

Meaning that web designers have wasted millions of hours of work dealing with Microsoft’s crappy web browser.

The computer revolution definitely would have happened without Microsoft. They didn’t do anything special. They just gained a monopoly in a race against many other companies. The only thing that keeps them innovating is the people that are attempting to compete with them.
